I was amazed to find out how easy it was to actually get a game on the Xbox (in terms of money required) when I researched it; I'm planning on doing the same over my gap year (that is, if I manage to release a Flash game first!).

You use XNA Gamestudio, which is built on top of Microsoft Visual Studio, and it uses C#. Much more complicated than actionscript, and much more powerful.
